Discussion Questions
1) What does Sety’s inscription in Lichtheim II:52-56 tell you
about the process and purpose of building this temple? What is
the most interesting thing about this inscription do you think?
2) Compare
Rameses’ battle inscription in Lichtheim with what your textbook says
actually happened. How does Rameses present himself as a
king? a
warrior? a person close to the gods? How does it compare to
the
inscriptions of Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, and Amenhotep III that we
have read? Does the inscription give us an accurate account of
the
battle? Why or why not? Think about specific points in the
passage to
bring up in class in the context of this question.
3)
What is the basic location, purpose, and function of Abu Simbel and
Seti's/Rameses's temple at Abydos?
4) Can you see any lasting changes due to the Amarna period
(Akhenaten/Nefertiti), or does the material from today look like the
18th Dynasty prior to their "revolution"?
