Face of Akhenaten

Amarna Reign of Akhenaten, 1353 - 1336 B.C.
Plaster; h. 17.4 cm, w. 12.5 cm, d. 8.5 cm
Egyptian Museum, Cairo

This plaster mask was found in a sculptor's workshop at Amarna. Cast from a head modeled in clay, the face has high cheekbones, full, V-shaped lips, and a square chin -- features that suggest it was an image of the king.
