Head of Amen

Reign of Tutankhamen,
1332-1322 B.C.
Diorite;
h. 44 cm, w. 38.5 cm, d. 41.5 cm
Rogers Fund, 1907.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art,
New York

This larger-than-life-size head combines the features of Tutankhamen with the braided beard and distinctive crown (now missing its twin plumes) that identify the god Amen. It probably belonged to one of the many huge statues of Amen made for the temple at Karnak during Tutankhamen's reign.
