Armed soldiers

Reign of Akhenaten, 1353–1336 B.C.
Limestone
Gift of R. G. Gayer-Anderson, lent by the Syndics of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge

These two soldiers are probably hurrying to form part of a royal procession. The man on the right grasps a sling and holds an oval shield awkwardly under his right arm, as if not quite prepared for inspection. His companion holds an ax in his left hand, clutches a spear in his right, and slings his shield over his right shoulder.
