Atelier of the sculptor Iuty
Atelier of the sculptor Iuty,
from the tomb of the Steward Huya

Many artists were hard at work in Akhenaten's city, carving and painting. This drawing of a tomb relief takes us to a busy Amarna workshop. Iuty, the master sculptor--shown much larger than his assistants--paints the finishing touches on a statue of a royal princess while an apprentice watches. At the left, two more artisans work with bronze tools. The one below carves the head for a statue, while the one above shapes a curving furniture leg.
