Ay and Wife

Ay was a high official. Many years later, he became pharaoh himself, after Tutankhamen. While it is unusual for his wife to be shown with him, women seem to have been given greater status at Amarna. Ay and Tiy wear many of the gold necklaces given as awards by the king and have cones of ointment on their heads, a luxury enjoyed at banquets and special occasions.
