Artists'
workshops in the ruins of Amarna contained many trial pieces -- figures of the royal
family, commoners, animals, and hieroglyphic signs. Artists used scraps of stone to
experiment with the new style before applying their skills to monuments. This small piece
of stone has a relief of Nefertiti's head on one side. The other side, turned in the
opposite direction, was used for a carving of a kneeling figure. |
