Before Amarna

This relief was carved for the tomb of an official during Egypt’s Old Kingdom period, more than 1000 years before Akhenaten. Nefer’s muscular body, with its broad shoulders and narrow waist and hips exemplifies the youthful, athletic ideal that became the standard in Egyptian sculpture.
