Hands on bat

If you’re familiar with the customs of the twentieth century, you’ll recognize a baseball bat. The batting gloves tell us the image dates from at least the late twentieth century. Before the 1970's, players didn’t wear gloves. Can you read the number on the base of the bat? Does it tell you anything?
