Number on helmet

This small fragment could be very hard to identify. But if
you’re enough of an expert to recognize a piece of a
batting helmet, you’ll know this is a baseball player who
wore number 5. Studying the archives of the Boston
Globe (if they have survived) could suggest some
possibilities.
